In terms of chronology, Sedlec, the present-day outskirts of Kutná Hora, is considered as the  starting point of town’s history. In the middle of 12th century (A.D. 1142) first twelve Cistercian monks came to Sedlec on the initiative of Miroslav – an aristocrat  close to prince Vladislav II – to found a new monastery. Discovery of local silver deposits represented a significant turning point in further development of Kutná Hora. During past centuries, town of Kutná Hora has gone through times of prosperity as well as experienced decline. There has been preserved a large number of the historical buildings, which could be considered as a masterwork of Czech architecture. Majority of monuments throughout Kutná Hora are administrated by Catholic church in Kutná Hora-Sedlec.
